The Big Game

We went to the Lewis home for Super Bowl Sunday.

West Jr. eyed the King cake… until we left the room… then the King cake was no more…

Bentley and Matthew did the cooking…  they picked up 8 dozen hotwings and prepared the following:

4 dozen Belmont style (Louisiana and Butter)
2 dozen BBQ
2 dozen Lemon Pepper

Bentley told me I was not allowed to warn them of the possible ramifications of cooking frozen food in the hot grease again.  Apparently I was the only person there that watched the special on how dangerous it is to drop a frozen turkey into 450degree peanut oil.

I think Anne Hartmann lost her bet…

Kirking of the Tartans

Today was Shattuck’s first day to attend St. Johns Episcopal Church and was also the Kirking of the Tartans.  The Wolf River Pipes and Drums were present.  Shattuck loved the bagpipes.

This is a picture of cousin Grant Hopkins and Shattuck.  Grant’s Grandfather was Cooper Adams who was the brother of Shattuck’s Great Grandfather and namesake William Shattuck Adams.

Presentation and Dedication of the Tartans

Celebrant:
On behalf of all Scots in all land and Clansfolk here represented, we ask you to present your tartans before Almighty God and seek God’s blessing.

People: For all who have lived and died bearing the tartan and have bequethed to us our Scottish heritage, we give thanks to Almighty God and all who love them.

Honoring the Clans

Celebrant:  Almighty God, we rejoice in the opportunity to dedicate to Thee these tartans as symbols of the unwavering loyalty, steadfast faith, and great achievements of our Scottish fore bears.  We take pride in their rugged individualism, their respect for law and order, their hatred of cant and hypocrisy, their regard for human personality, and their belief in the equality of all people before thee.  Grant, O God, that we, too, may ever be true to the faith which has played such a great part in the building of our beloved land.  Use us and all Thy servants everywhere, we pray Thee, to bring peace and good will, equality and justice to all throughout the world.  In the name of the Prince of Peace, even Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Lale’s Mother Heads Home

Lale’s mother stay up with Shattuck day and night for 4 weeks… I don’t think we can thank her enough.   We took her to the Airport Saturday morning.  When we got back in the car… we looked at each other and realized that now we were on our own.

As we left the Airport, I asked Lale if she wanted to stop by La Bagette for brunch… she said, ‘How about somewhere a little more fun?”

So, I said, ‘What about going to Oxford to lunch?’  So we headed down the road to Oxford.

We stopped by to see Marthe Ma in Batesville.  She just got a pacemaker and was doing great!

Below is a picture from a few months ago when Lale was a few months pregnant with Marthe Ma.

After a nice visit, we went on to Oxford.  I called cousin Cooper Hopkins when we arrived and he told me he and his mother were having lunch on the square.  We stopped by to say hello.  Cooper was on his way to a Phi Delta initiation party.

Lale and I had lunch at Proud Larrys.  Nothing has changed in that place since we had our first date there 10 years ago.  Shattuck did great.  Then we walked around the square.  I made us leave when Lale found a dinner ring in Jewels by Annette on the square she really wanted.

When we made it back to Memphis, we joined West, Elizabeth, Anne Hartman, and West Jr at their home for a steak.  Mary Jane and Buddy Hemphill were there on their way through to Little Rock the next day.

Shattuck’s Trip to Davis Kidd

This is Shattuck’s first trip around town.  He went to the Women’s Exchange and then to Davis Kidd Bookstore for lunch… it’s going to take Years of Hunting, Football, and Fishing to unwind a few weeks with his mother.

I played the Cello for Shattuck… he’s not a big fan of the screeching… Fletcher howled… Lale shook her head… I’m not feeling a lot of love for the music in my house.
