Kirken of the Tarten II

07 Sunday Feb 2010

Today marks one year that Shattuck has been going to St. John’s Episcopal Church.  Today was the Kirken of the Tarten.  Shattuck seemed to enjoy the Wolf River Band’s bag pipes.

Shattuck wore his God Father Bond Hopkin’s old Harris Tweed over coat and hat (Bond was fitted in London on a trip with his parents).

The Church was full of people holding up their family tartens.

All of Shattuck’s friends were there.  He had a great time seeing all of them and talking to them in Church.

After Church we went to Paulettes.  This is Shattuck’s Great Grandmother Nan’s favorite restaraunt.  He stuffed himself on the pop overs.

After lunch, Shattuck slept all the way home.  He’s had a busy day.

The time… the time… whose got the time?!?

… the time… the time… whose got the time?!?

No wonder your late daddy… why this clock is exactly two days slow…

We’ll have to look into this!

Ah ha!  I see what’s wrong… why this clock is full of wheels and springs!

Butter… of course… this needs some butter!!

BUTTER!

Tea?  Oh of course tea!

Sugar?…. Yes sugar… two spoons!

Yam?…. Yes jam!  Forgot all about the jam!

Mustard???…

Mustard!… Mustard?… don’t be silly!

Like Shattuck said… this clock was two days slow…

(watch the below video if you still haven’t caught on)

Shattuck destroyed my clock… then sat back for his milk…

If I be shaven, then my strength will go from me

Shattuck’s mother decided it was time for him to have a hair cut.  So, Shattuck went down to the High Point Barber Shop for a trim (it’s free for the first haircut).

17That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.

18And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.

19And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.

20And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.

I’m not going to make anymore reference to the biblical Sampson and Delilah… it’s just to corny.

How he goes blind…

… then asks for one more chance to vanquish his foe…

The lesson here son is… don’t marry a woman who would 1) inquire about your weaknesses and then 2) exploit those weaknesses for money.   In fact… I would say as a rule… that your wife someday should be a person who protects, loves, and cares for you always… and never tries to sell secrets about you for silver to your enemys…. as a rule.

1st Birthday

Shattuck’s 1st birthday party was so much fun.

Shattuck wore an outfit that was mine when I was his age.

He was so happy that his Grandmother was in town visiting….

The Lewis Family joined us for Shattuck’s Birthday…

Shattuck started with his Gnocci…

Anne Hartmann and West watched The Jungle Book while the adults enjoyed dinner.

I picked up Lucchessi’s.  It was great…

It was time for Shattuck to prepare for cake…

Shattuck’s cake was pink… it was strawberry… I probably should have Photo Shopped this pic to make the cake blue…

Anne Hartmann offered the best part of birthday cake… the tip of the candle… because there was only 1 this Year… she gave it to Shattuck.  Very thoughtful A.H.

Shattuck was fed his cake from a silver spoon.

West Jr. enjoyed the conversation…

Question:  Who gave the 3 year old the sharp instrument.

We had forgotten a few presents under the tree…

…. A.H. didn’t have problem helping out and openning the presents from us…

A.H. almost had an assembly line set up for taking presents apart…. more like a chop shop…

Shattuck’s present from Linda Orton was a book called Tickle Monster… it came with monster gloves… when anyone reads the book the him… they put on the gloves… when it’s time in the story to tickle… Shattuck giggles and skirms… it’s funny to see his little teeth when he smiles.

Uh oh… who was watching the table?  Mintie jumped up to help herself to some strawberry birthday cake…

She couldn’t deny it… the pink icing was all over her mouth…

Everyone enjoyed Shattuck’s 1st birthday…

Wishing you
special happiness,
wonderful memories…
and all the best
on your birthday
and every day.

Happy Birthday My Son

Shattuck’s first Christmas in Mississippi.

Mintie and Shattuck watched for Shattuck.

Is that him?

I think it is…

Nope… false alarm…

Shattuck is so excited.

Shattuck got a sleeping pig from Santa…. he loaded his things in his new wagon…

Shattuck had to get dressed for breakfast…

We went to visit Great Grandmother Nan for breakfast… Shattuck played the piano for her…

Then back to Cleveland’s house to meet Great Grandmother Marthe Ma for lunch…

While we sat down for Christmas lunch…

…Shattuck slept… he was so tired after a long day…

Christmas Eve In Rosedale

Shattuck’s first Christmas Eve was in Rosedale, MS.  He attended his old family Church… Grace Episcopal Church.

This is a video taken outside Grace Episcopal Church in the late 1940s during the baptism of Johnston Cooper Adams from Memphis, son of Cooper and Sue Adams.

(Click to Watch)

Grace Church has one of the most beautiful stain glass windows.  The history of where the window came from is unknown to me.  I spent many Sunday’s listening to my Grandfather read from the lectern.

The stain glass window behind Shattuck is in memory of Bessie Shattuck Kirk died 1896 and Albert (Allee) Leonidas Kirk died 1894.  Bessie Shattuck Kirk is William Shattuck’s great great great Grandmother.  She was married to John Melchoir Kirk and lived on Waxhaw plantation.

Bessie Shattuck Kirk born in Woodville, MS April 16th, 1867 and died July 26, 1896.

Shattuck went to see his Great Grandmother Nancy Gray Adams (Nan) after Church Christmas Eve.

Space Time Continuum

Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity states that space and time are relative — an object in motion actually experiences time at a slower rate than one at rest.

I can’t believe Shattuck is almost 1 year old.  I’m going to have to say that I think Einstein was a smelly old fool… the Adams Family is in a constant state of motion… and time seems to fly by.

I think of ‘time’ from a different perspective these days. Sometimes I feel disconnected to historical events I read about or watch on the History channel.  Major historical events that took place before my memory seem so distant.  However, when I think about it… I was born 33 years ago in 1976… if I go back in time 33 years before I was born… the United States was still engaged in WWII… and 33 years before that… Thomas Edison introduced his kinetophone in 1910, which gave way to talkies (movies with sound).  I’ve digressed.

I’ll go back to playing with Shattuck…
